We offer counseling services for service members, spouses, partners, children, and non-remarried surviving spouses, addressing a wide range of concerns including deployment adjustments, stress management, relationship difficulties, parenting challenges, grief and loss, combat-related trauma and the transition to civilian life. Our therapists are skilled in navigating the complexities of military culture, including the deployment cycle, rank structure, and the values that define service. This specialized knowledge ensures that your experiences are not only understood but validated.

Military and military family therapy addresses the unique challenges faced by service members and their loved ones, particularly due to the stresses of deployment, combat exposure, and the demanding military culture.  A significant aspect of military life is the deployment cycle, which consists of three phases: pre-deployment, deployment, and post-deployment. Each phase involves distinct emotional stages that families navigate, including anticipation of departure, detachment, emotional disorganization, and the complex process of reintegration after return. These cycles, often repeated, can lead to significant emotional strain, with service members and family members experiencing high rates of PTSD, anxiety, and depression.

Effective therapy for military families focuses on improving communication, reducing conflict, and addressing the disruption caused by combat stress and deployment. Evidence-based approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Family Therapy, Brief Strategic Family Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Family Therapy, which are designed to strengthen family resilience and support healthy reintegration. The importance of involving the family in treatment is well recognized, as it can enhance the effectiveness of care for complex conditions like PTSD, which are common among veterans. Interventions are increasingly adapted for military contexts, including the use of telehealth to overcome geographic barriers, especially in rural areas where access to VA facilities may be limited.

Our practice incorporates proven therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Family Therapy, Brief Strategic Family Therapy, and Emotion Focused Family Therapy, all of which are effective in treating PTSD, anxiety, depression, and family conflict. These methods focus on improving communication, reducing conflict, and helping families rebuild and stabilize after the stresses of deployment.

For those seeking support, we are proud to be part of the Tricare East Provider Network. Our goal is to make quality care accessible and convenient.
